Forbidden Florist, Haverfordwest
PDL are delighted that following a 3 year process, this innovative and unique venue, positioned on the Quayside in Haverfordwest, the County Town of Pembrokeshire, is now complete and open for business.
PDL were set the difficult task of designing a venue that would ensure the continued safe use of the existing popular venue that is positioned on the two floors above Forbidden Florist.
External fire escape staircases were removed, along with a permanently fixed marquee structure to the rear of the venue, leaving a large open courtyard facing the quay and County Hall.
The dilemma was how to create a safe escape route for the public using the upper floor venues, whilst maximising the space below for the brand new restaurant and cocktail bar.
Following months of feasibilities, Andrew finally agreed with the Client that two “bridges” either side of the courtyard could be constructed, with escape stairs leading directly onto the quay itself, rather than within the courtyard.
Planning Permission was eventually granted for the new structure, that when viewed externally, appears to replicate an “old” quay type building. The magical surprise is when you enter the venue. The space is vast and includes a fantastic central bar with dining spaces, together with dining booths placed under the two bridges mentioned previously.
The customer’s experience will be further enhanced when the curved retractable roof, installed between the two bridges overhead, is opened to provide an outside dining experience on warm summer days, which is a unique design feature and one of many included both inside and out.
It is no exaggeration to say that hundreds of people have worked tirelessly on this project, and not without challenges along the way, to deliver a build that is completely different and truly unique. PDL and Andrew in particular, would like to thank all those involved and would congratulate Mark & Leon Edwards for their bold and ambitious foresight in giving Pembrokeshire a class venue, which is on a par with our nation’s best.
