The Practice has been involved in a number of cottage renovations, usually in quiet hamlets and villages for many years, some for owner-occupiers but mostly for holiday lets/second homes as an investment. The buildings are mostly small and difficult to update, but with lateral thinking, some ingenious engineering, and a sympathetic and contemporary approach to their adaption and updating, they invariably provide for unique dwellings with interesting spatial arrangements internally, a vernacular aesthetic externally, and highly sustainable credentials by virtue of their original construction. Once complete, often derelict stone shells can reintroduce civic pride into these charming rural locations and act as a catalyst for further regeneration.
